Please join Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop’s David Wong and his publisher Arsenal Pulp in the Canadian book launch of Escape to Gold Mountain: A Graphic History of the Chinese in North America – a 240 page graphic novel (comic book).

Escape to Gold Mountain is the first graphic novel to tell the story of Chinese immigrants who persevered in the face of discrimination, subjugation and the loss of loved ones to create a new life in the US and Canada.

Escape to Gold Mountain is based on historical documents and interviews with elders, Wong reveals the sadness and indignity these Chinese newcomers faced, as well as their hard-won successes and contributions to their new homes.
David H.T. Wong was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. He is an accomplished architect and a respected Asian Canadian community activist whose family first came to Canada from China 130 years ago. Escape to Gold Mountain is his first book.
