Restoration of Foo Dogs
From May to September, visitors will have a chance to experience the restoration of our beloved guardian Foo Dogs at the Garden. They were stolen in September 2016 and returned to us with damage such as cracks and missing pieces.
Made in the early 1960s, the Foo Dogs are prized for their aesthetic beauty and mystical protective power as guardians. They will grace the garden’s entrance once again after master gilder and restorer Ana Diaz-Drew repairs them to their original beauty. The restoration will take approximately four months.
Join us to see how the magnificent Foo Dogs are conserved and restored. The schedule for the restoration sessions in June are as follows:
Thursday, June 1 | noon–4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 6 | noon–4:00 p.m.
Thursday June 8 | noon–4:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 14 | noon–4:00 p.m.
