Grace Bu

Finance Chair

Grace immigrated to Canada from Nanjing Jiangsu, China in 2004. Discovering the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden was like finding a deep link to her heritage and culture within her newly adopted country. Shortly after arriving in Vancouver, Grace volunteered in the adult daycare program at the Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House near her first home. A volunteer-driven organization, Cedar Cottage’s mission is to make neighbourhoods better places to live and to enable people to enhance their lives and strengthen their communities. This first Canadian volunteer experience not only helped Grace integrate into her new country, but appreciate the importance of community involvement.

A Certified General Accountant, Grace obtained her first job with Dragomir Lui & Company and has been a senior accountant with the firm since 2005. Grace has worked professionally with many clients from the non-profit sector and gained experience in how such organizations operate—invaluable expertise she shares with the Garden in her role as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.

Grace describes herself as a lover of all gardens and sees the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden as a treasure within Vancouver’s multicultural community. She also understands and appreciates how important the Garden is in connecting Chinese culture to the larger community.  Grace hopes that her combined interest in community involvement and her lifelong understanding of Chinese culture and values will help the Garden maintain and promote its relevance in the Canadian context.
