Jeannette Hlavach

Immediate Past President

Jeannette is an urban planner with a specialty in heritage conservation. She worked for many years as a Heritage Planner at Vancouver City Hall, especially in the historic districts of Chinatown and Gastown. Jeannette is pleased to be able to maintain her commitment and enthusiasm for Chinatown and her interest in Chinese culture as member of the Board of Trustees for the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden Society. Jeannette views the existence of the Garden as a testament to the rallying cry of planners of her generation—to find value in our special urban places through the involvement of our citizens.  She sees immense value in the authentic experience the Garden provides of ancient China; one that educates the mind and refreshes the soul. Jeannette also sees the Garden as a cornerstone of Chinese culture within the historic district of Chinatown.

In addition to her role on the Board, Jeannette continues to be active in heritage organizations, especially the Vancouver Heritage Foundation and ICOMOS Canada (the International Council on Monuments and Sites).
