Richard Gauntlett

Board Member

Richard grew up in Zimbabwe, but has lived in North Vancouver for the past 25 years. In 2012, he retired from his position as the Recreation and Community Services Coordinator at the Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre in North Vancouver. Prior to this, he spent six years as Manager of the John Braithwaite Community Centre in Lower Lonsdale, and fifteen years at the Britannia Community Services Centre on Commercial Drive.

Richard has been committed to volunteer activities for almost fifty years, and has extensive experience in community work. While living in England in the eighties, he worked with an organization providing low-income housing; during sixteen years in Labrador, he gained experience in teaching and administration with the school system.

Richard believes in the importance of community involvement and development. He sees the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese garden as a cultural jewel and is delighted to be supporting its future growth as a trustee. When not enjoying some peace and quiet in the Garden, Richard can be found hiking, climbing, and reading across a wide range of topics.
