Robert fell for the Garden while attending an Enchanted Evening musical program on a summer evening a few years ago. The owner of a garden design business and a proven board member and community volunteer, Robert brings valuable skills and knowledge – both horticultural and organizational – to the Garden Board.
Robert earned a degree in Forestry from UBC and pursued a long career in the BC forest industry. In the late 1990s he left forestry to reinvent himself in accord with his strong interest in gardening, its design and construction. He completed a Certificate in Horticulture from Kwantlen College and a Master Gardener Certificate from the VanDusen Botanical Gardens Association. He founded a landscape company now specializing in the design of small to medium residential gardens.
Along the way Robert served on the Board of the North Fraser Port Authority, a Property Assessment Review Panel and is currently a Director with the Marpole Museum and Historical Society.
As an experienced member of government and non-profit boards in Vancouver, as well as experience gained during his career with a major forest company, Robert understands how to work with community and municipal partners.
Robert’s vision is to preserve the traditional style and function of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden through a well-managed conservation program. His love of city gardens and knowledge of them from his travels make him a great fit in the Garden Board.
His experience in non-profit and government boards has left him with experience in governance that will help the Garden achieve its goals.
