Dim sum refers to the Cantonese teahouse and food culture tradition of southern China, which dates back to the teahouses of the Tang and Song dynasties. While these teahouses originally served only tea, they began to introduce small snacks to the table over time. These eventually developed into the varied food items we know today, which include dumplings, egg tarts, and radish cakes.
