On Sunday, April 22, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden celebrates Chinatown Cultural Day with a lineup of activities that focus on cultural heritage.

Learn about Chinese calligraphy, penjing, and the Garden’s history at our booths located at Keefer and Columbia Streets from 1 pm to 4 pm. Traditional Chinese tea service will take place inside the Garden at the same time. Participants will get a chance to win a Fortune Collection Gift Set provided by Tealeaves and a pair of tickets to see Jasmine Jazz, an an unusual interplay between traditional Chinese and jazz instruments, on Saturday, June 30.

Visitors are welcome to explore the Garden for free throughout the day. Artist Paul Wong’s video Ordinary Shadows, Chinese Shade (1988, 89 minutes, colour, in Chinese with English Subtitles) will be on view in the Scholar’s Study as part of his year-long residency 身在唐人街/Occupying Chinatown.

Occupying Chinatown is commissioned by the City of Vancouver Public Art Program in partnership with Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Paul Wong also wishes to thank the BC Arts Council for additional support.

Please visit the City of Vancouver’s website for more information about the City’s formal apology for past discrimination against residents of Chinese descent and Chinatown Cultural Day.
