Water Poon’s DESTINATION Jiangsu Past \ Guangdong Present photography focuses on framed unconventional views of ancient landmarks of traditional Chinese architecture and canals in Jiangsu province along the Yangtzu River Delta. The artist also explores the modern outlook of contemporary built-up metropolis in Guangzhou province of the Pearl River Delta. Jiangsu carries the traditional culture of ancient China, while Guangdong presents booming and prosperous modern China.
About the Artist
Born in China in 1944, Water Poon started his artistic career as a photo journalist in the early 1980s, when he travelled extensively with his camera around China. In 1983, he exhibited his photo sceneries of Mainland China in the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan and Taipei’s Sceneries in the Beijing Art Museum in China, with his work published under the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House. Over the years, Poon has edited, designed, and published over 50 photographic collections, art books, and travel journals, and has worked at various newspapers in different countries. He has received many prizes, such as a Commendation Award for contributions in arts and a Certificate of Appreciation for charitable contributions. His diverse portfolio consists of a variety of projects and awards, emphasizing different aspects of his skills and covering a broad spectrum of topics. He is continuously engaged in exploring different concepts and ideas through various media and platforms.
