We invite you to attend the Virtual Opening of the new exhibition Intangible Thread – Part One by the new artist in residence Xiangmei Su. This exhibition will run from January 15th to March 30th.

Inspired by childhood memories of watching her mother weave in their home in Suzhou, China, Xiangmei uses the traditional medium of thread to create contemporary works that explore questions of identity, migration and modernity.

During this free virtual opening will take place next Friday, January 14th from 5pm to 6pm, the artist will talk about her inspirations and the history behind this Two Part exhibit.

“My work showcases weaving as a traditional craft that has dramatically changed over time. This change is mirrored in the constantly shifting lives of people. I, as one part of this migration, facing challenges in a new country, and start questioning myself: who I am.”

This exhibition is held on traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
