Art Talks – “Documenting An Ever Changing Chinatown” with Jonathan Desmond

This week, the Garden is proud to present “Documenting An Ever Changing Chinatown – How My 1 Year Photo Project Became a Life Journey”, with Jonathan Desmond.
For the past few years I’ve been photographing Vancouver’s Chinatown. When I started this project in 2013, I didn’t intend for it to go this far. This was initially just a photography project that would help build my skills and give my photography direction and was to last for just a year. A multitude of experiences and new friendships and connections changed that. It changed my view on Vancouver’s Chinatown. It changed my view on what it meant to photograph.
Currently a member of the Wongs’ Benevolent Association, Jonathan Desmond has been documenting Vancouver’s Chinatown through photography since 2013. This intersects, methodologically, with his professional work in documentary wedding and lifestyle photography. Desmond strives to create photographs that allow stories to unfold on their own.

Join us for a free virtual talk on June 26th at 2pm PST.
