How do we study the objects in our daily life? Does this impact how we see the world around us?
In collaboration with the Shang Foundation for Art, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is thrilled to host the first edition of the Canada-China Art Exchange for Young Emerging Artists (加中青年艺术家提名展), Investigation of Things 格物.
An ancient Chinese phrase to describe the study of the nature of the world, Investigation of Things focuses on how two different cultures observe, study, and understand individual items and objects, and how they fit into the world around us.
Investigation of Things seeks to generate discussions through the differing perspectives highlighted by the ten artists featured in the exhibition, showcasing distinct cultural methodologies, and how these impact our view of the world. The show hopes to open cultural dialogues between Canada and China, through the evocative language of contemporary visual art.
Investigation of Things 格物 is the second exhibition in Lam Wong’s year-long Artist Residency at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Wong is joined as curator for this exhibition by colleague Steven Dragonn, independent curator and founder of Canton-Sardine, and instructor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
Shang Foundation for Art is a non-profit organization with a mandate to promote contemporary Canadian art and academic exchanges between China and Canada through the showcasing of young emerging artists from China and Canada on the international stage. The foundation focuses on artistic projects featuring global contemporary issues such as environmental protection, ethnic migration and cultural integration.
