DANNY QUON - BOARD CHAIR
For the past 35 years, Danny Quon has devoted much of his life to teaching traditional Chinese culture and arts to Canadian youth. Having been influenced by his father at an early age, promoting Chinese culture quickly became a special passion for Danny. He soon realized that this passion could serve a larger purpose such as helping to foster racial harmony in Canada and in motivating Canadian youth to get more involved with community service. Through Danny’s leadership and volunteering efforts in Vancouver’s Chinese community, he created past activities such as a classical Chinese youth orchestra, sought improvements to the conditions for those living in Vancouver’s Chinatown and has rekindled new interest in the ancient art of Chinese dragon and lion dance of which Danny’s organization, the Hon Hsing Athletic Club of Vancouver performs regularly at cultural and charitable events including a special performance for Her Majesty the Queen in 2002 for her Golden Jubilee visit to Vancouver.
In 2002 and respectively in 2012, Danny was bestowed with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Governor General of Canada for his contributions to the country. Not only passionate about his own Chinese culture, Danny is also passionate on what it means to be a Canadian and has taken a leading role in numerous exchange programs with other civic youth groups from around the world with the aims of promoting Canadian values. Danny has also applied his enthusiasm and energy in business, enjoying a successful career today as an associate investment advisor with a global investment bank.
