Intimate Distances, by Fiona Tinwei Lam

Intimate Distances, by Fiona Tinwei Lam

A stunning first book from one of the Chinese-Canadian community’s most insightful and grippingly honest young voices, Intimate Distances is a deep exploration of the vicissitudes of interpersonal connection and family relationships. Lam writes poignantly and vividly about her background: her father’s early death during her childhood, the end of marriage, the gradual loss of her mother to Alzheimer’s and, most recently, childbirth.

About the author:

Besides authoring two previous poetry books and a children’s book, Fiona Tinwei Lam edited The Bright Well: Contemporary Canadian Poems on Facing Cancer, and co-edited Love Me True: Writers Reflect on the Ins, Outs, Ups & Downs of Marriage with Jane Silcott. Lam won The New Quarterly’s Nick Blatchford Prize and was a finalist for the City of Vancouver Book Award. Her work appears in more than forty anthologies, including The Best Canadian Poetry in English (both 2010 and 2020). Her award-winning poetry videos have screened at festivals internationally. She teaches at SFU Continuing Studies.
