Arts and Culture Field Trips

Study ancient Chinese techniques in the beautiful surroundings of our Classical Chinese Garden. 

Tai Chi relates to physical literacy and mental health strategies in the Physical and Health Education curriculum.  

Our arts programs discuss artistic expressions from a different time and place, and encourages individual artistic expression as in the Arts Education curriculum.

Virtual Program and Teaching Kit: Framing Views (All Grades)

This art activity is inspired by our traditional leak windows that frame and reveal Garden views. Teaching notes, full instructions and photocopiable material are provided.

An optional short introduction is available led by one of our knowledgeable facilitators on a virtual platform of your choice.

A Taste of Tai Chi (Grades 2 and up)

Tai chi involves a series of gentle movements and simple postures which are designed to improve coordination, balance and relieve stress. Tai chi is perfect for students of all ages and fitness levels. This program is facilitated by a Tai chi practitioner.

60 minutes | $13 per student
Add Garden Tour: $16 per student

Yoga in the Garden (Grades 2 and up)

Enjoy a relaxing yoga class in the peaceful surroundings of our Garden. This program is facilitated by a certified Yoga teacher.

Ancient Arts (All Grades)

Learn about the practice of Chinese painting known as ink and wash painting. Use the beauty of the Chinese Garden as inspiration to create beautiful artwork to take home.

90 minutes | $8 per student

Rustling Leaves (Ages 5 - 11)

The ancient Chinese used plants as inspiration. Explore the plants found in the Chinese garden up close with magnifying glasses, then enjoy some fun nature-based activities and puzzles using your observations.

90 minutes | $8 per child
This program works well for spring and summer camps.
