Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is an internationally recognized cultural and educational facility that offers extensive professional training for a range of individuals. The Volunteer Program offers direct work experience in events, retail, educational programming, garden tours, garden maintenance, and office administration. The joys of volunteering here are many, among which is an opportunity to meet great people, share your knowledge, and relish the Garden’s tranquil environment.

Current Opportunities

Docent/Cultural Interpreter

Docents lead 45-minute public tours for visitors and share information about Chinese gardens, history, culture, and philosophy. The position is great for fine tuning public speaking and group facilitation skills. All new Docents are required to shadow a maximum of 3 tours during their training period and be available to lead at least 2 tours per week for a minimum of 6 months.

Special Events Assistant

Assist with special events and festivals at the Garden, such as Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. All Event Assistants must be available for a volunteer orientation and help with at least 2 events per year.

Garden Assistant

Assist with maintaining the horticultural elements of the garden; ideal for someone interested in horticulture or garden design. Garden Assistants must be available for training and help in the Garden at least once a month for a minimum of 4 months.

Gift Shop Assistant

Assist with inventory, display, and customer purchases; great for those interested in obtaining retail and customer service experience. All Shop Assistants must be available for training and assist in the shop at least once a week for a minimum of 4 months.

Professional Practicum Placement

The Garden offers short-term and long-term internships in events, retail, office administration, and educational programming.
